Wordless Wednesday...

Doesn't this giant cicada give you the warm fuzzies?

  1. Ummmmm no fuzzies here - goosebumps maybe. LOL But the picture you captured is absolutely beautiful with the touch of color in the background and the rest sky.

  2. Isn't that a Praying Mantis? Cicada's are winged insects, not quite as scary looking. I only know this because last last Summer I did a post on Praying Mantis and your guy looks like my guy. Look for it in my search bar if you'd like.

  3. Ahhhhh ..... NO! It looks huge and creepy and in Nova Scotia, we don't have huge creepy insects! (Only little creepy ones that can be squished in the blink of an eye with only minor goo-poo residue!)

  6. Yeppers, that IS a praying mantis! ;)
Wanted to see who knew their bugs...LOL!

They are fun to observe as their body is a stick figure with a huge, long belly. And did you know they have super sonic hearing and can see 60 ft. away? As big as they are, they are hard to notice at first since they camouflage so well into their environment. I was pruning this chaste tree and he startled me!

  9. Hey Lynn!

They are among the most amazing of insects. I remember my mom got some egg cases by mail order when I was a kid. We had such fun finding them as they hatched when they were tiny, and later in the summer they got so huge.
