Feeling Grounded!

I don't know about you, but I tend to get a little (okay, a lot!) cranky when I go
through a stretch of time without some form of garden therapy.
Truly.  I do.
Bulbs have really been struttin' their stuff for a few weeks now.
Except for the occasional photo ops, I haven't had time to get out there and really enjoy them...
until this past week!

Thanks to the extended daylight!  A quick change out of heels to garden clogs
and I'm sprinting out the door after work!
But bulbs aren't the only plants showing off  in the garden.
The weeds have never looked healthier!
But guess what?  I love to weed.
Truly. I do!
A few hours later (and a wheel barrow full of weeds), I find myself
feeling more relaxed, more centered...
more ME!
Gardening...it just grounds me.  I bet you gardeners can relate!
Thanks for visiting, Friends.

Is it Fall....?!

Waking up with that nip in the air this morning sure felt like it!  Covering my petunias and tender annuals was a very smart move.
But, really, it IS only mid May.  I think we've been spoiled with the nice run of
warm temps and rain these past few weeks...
so life in the garden progressed that much sooner this year.  At least for me, here in central New Jersey.

Here I am at Longwood Gardens in mid April, and bulbs are already at peak bloom!

Being at the ready-set-go bell allowed me shots of a crowd-free landscape.
Of course I had to scramble here and there with a quick snap, snap, snap.

Breathtaking!  A whole grove of massive cherry trees!

I didn't mind that this couple beat me to this garden...
they sure added a touch of romance to this scene.
This image is kinda cool...
only because I used the wrong lens hood..lol!
Have you ever SEEN so many tulips in bloom?!
A feast for the senses that's for sure.
Wonder where my next excursion will take us...tune in to find out!
Thanks for stopping by, friends.

First Day of Spring!

This time yesterday, everywhere I looked, the garden was covered in snow.  The landscape was dull and grey...with one vibrant exception!

Funny how 24 hours can make such a difference!  Well, it hasn't changed this drastically!  But, oh...would be so nice, eh?  Let's stroll through this lovely garden display from the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Anywhere else, these bold colors would surely clash,
but in a garden...anything goes.
Even this adorable little outhouse at the end of the path.
If you haven't tried growing tulips, they are easy!  Though if in Zones 8 and above, treat them as annuals.  This two-toned beauty is named Kees Nelis.  They last well cut, and even continue growing in a vase.  Try adding the petals to a salad...they are edible.  Really, they are!
Well, it's a gorgeous day so this gardener is headin' out to limb up and clean up.
Enjoy this first day of Spring, y'all!

To a New Year...

and a new beginning!

I am not one to make resolutions, at least, not in writing, but I'm sure we all make lists within, to be....well, just better, in the coming year.
Be it better in work production, community service, spiritual enlightenment, physical activities (try Zumba!), or the all-too-common goal: healthier eating habits; we all strive for these improvements, right?  I know I do.

Today, I'm adding two more to my unwritten list.  Yeah...it's garden related!
I resolve to pencil in time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
As passionate gardeners, we spend endless hours in planting and maintaining our gardens, yet don't take the time to really enjoy the beauty created.  I know I don't.

Also, I will try my darndest to do a weekly post on this here neglected blog.  Even if only to share a photo or two from my infinite supply!  Sounds easy, right?!

I know some of you are thinking the same thing.  So, let's just do it!
(Uh-oh...feeling the pressure already! LOL)

As I look out at my winter landscape, I smile, knowing what will be revealed come Spring!  And I can hardly wait to enjoy the heck out of it!
Now that's an easy resolution to keep!

Happy New Year, Friends!
May 2013 be your best year yet...
in the garden!
