Best gift ever!

I'm over the moon! My Christmas present (an IOU from HH) was completed just in time for my birthday last week! It's my new compost bin! Come and see! It's 9ft long and has three compartments that are each 3'x3' It's pretty heavy duty and looks great, don't you think? The sides have heavy chicken wire and the front has 1x6 slats that lift up and out of the built-in groves. I'm to fill one end and move the material over as it breaks down so by the time I get to the third bin, it will be black gold. The weeding marathon this weekend filled up 1 1/2 bins already! And he thought it would be too big!

I have been bagging leaves from spring clean up and that, mixed with shredded newspaper and new greens, will hopefully break down fast...I'm hesitant to add kitchen scraps (there are bears in our neighborhood!) but maybe eggshells and coffee grounds will be ok....? We're debating whether to have a wooden top (on hinges) or just a heavy canvas...easy on and off for little me.

If anyone would like instructions on how to build this, please let me know.

And my Honey didn't stop there! Sunday was spent trimming trees and shrubs and seeding bare spots in the lawn.

Maybe I'll give him next weekend off and he can enjoy a golfing marathon....

Bloom a little while longer, please!

Four days of 90+ weather and we are in business...blooming business, that is! Dogwoods and crabapples fully matured a week or two sooner. Then a drop of 30 degrees and rain this past week did not showcase their blooms for long. I badly want to get out there and do some planting but, instead, I'm bundled up indoors fighting a cold! I'm determined to get out there today, rain or shine, because I NEED some garden therapy...you understand, I know you do!

It was SO hot that the kwansan cherry blossoms have peaked and is already creating pink snow...pretty but messy.

The Forget-me-nots came back with a vengeance and are ALL OVER the place!

They sure look great underneath the bleeding hearts.

SO hot that the tulips, green buds one day and fully opened the next...are almost finished!

Little stinker, Bandit, more trampling than tip-toeing, through my tulips...
but he knows Mama won't stay mad for long..lol.

SO hot that this little guy would want to take his fur coat off.

Anyone recognize these blooms? I found this surprise under the cherry tree but don't remember planting it. Each "flower" is less than an inch tall and has pretty deep cut leaves like an old fashioned dicentra. Odd, but very cute!

I enjoy visitors to my little garden anytime but these guys are NOT welcomed! I spied them early one morning as they were canvassing the yard for their next meal. Sorry, kitchen closed...GO AWAY!

Good Night, Garden

After a hectic day Saturday, I was happy to be home in time to see the garden in her prettiest light. I was tired but I know my blogging friends were depending on me...haha! The lawn was so lush and green, too, after HH's first mow. Okay, I am not complaining here but it just seems crazy to me that we had driving rain (and hail!!) last Wednesday, and now...a heatwave! These poor cool weather blooms will not know what to do. Hopefully, they'll hang in there so I can enjoy them a little while longer.

My daffodil border, along the driveway, is at it's peak. Peonies will be in it's place in another month or so. I like how the buds are reaching towards the sunset.

Can you tell I LOVE bleeding hearts?? I made an arrangement last week and these were not ready for the vase...

Cool how this white bleeding heart took on the glow of the sunset.

I swear the buds on this magnolia were tight just a few days ago.

So I was sitting there trying to get that perfect sunset photo (again) when Linus, our neighborhood stray, decided he wanted to say hello!! And I guess he's telling me he's tired too, and ready for bed.
