Yippee...a sign of life in my garden! While everyone's hellebores have been blooming their hearts out (Frances!), mine is a late bloomer. I'm guessing it's due to be divided last fall. And, it's my first "macro" shot...so cool!
Excited as I am about my hellebores, Best in Bloom Today has to be this gardenia. She is loaded with blooms and perfumes the dining room ever so sweetly.
A sunny forecast for the weekend, and, like most of you, I'll be itching to get some dirt under my fingernails...Happy Spring everyone!

ReplyDeleteWow, your photos are wonderful! I am amazed at the gardenia, white flowers are very difficult to shoot, just like the reds. As for the late hellebore, I have never tried to divide one for fear of killing it. Mine are all seedlings from the original four. You are quite brave!

ReplyDeleteHey Frances, I was a little hesitant about dividing the hellebores but how was I going to get more? (as they are kinda pricey). My original 3 clumps are now 7..hopefully they will all come back.
Hi Linda, I've been reading the camera manual and CD..gosh lots to learn! My secret for the gardenia? Neglect! Really, gardenias (like Hibiscus) put forth buds when you don't pamper them. When I think they should have water, the leaves turn yellow and fall off! At least, this has been my experience...lol.
Spring just makes us all feel so happy, doesn't it? Have you been growing that gardenia indoors all winter, or is it new? I didn't watch the bulb farm episode yet on Gardener's Diary, but I will soon. I didn't care much for the topiary episode, and ended up fast forwarding through most of it. I need flowers to keep me interested.

ReplyDeleteHi Robin, yeah, I wouldn't have the patience for topiary gardening. The gardenia was a present from HH (celebrating my new job) 3 wks ago so very new..I'll be anxious to see how long I can keep it healthy as my houseplants usually have a life-span of 6 months. But I also have a gardenia and oleander standard that's 8 mos. old and starting to bud so a good sign there..yay!
